29 September, in response to a call for volunteers from regional Foe groups, Sheila went to help run a stall organised by Edward Burke of central FOE, at the

Vegan and Zero Waste Market  held in the beautiful conservatory of the Millenium Gloucester Hotel in South Kensington.

As I arrived there were queues of people..and this event seemed to attract mostly the young...patiently waiting admittance. I was excited by the buzz of the place & its 'hip' ambiance. Sky Ocean Rescue had a stall near the entrance featuring 3D films of plastic bedevilled seascapes, so the scene looked rather futuristic with people standing around wearing the head sets masking their faces!

Our stall was located in front of their fantastic plastic whale sculpture. Over the day, we collected approximately 150 signatures for the plastic pollution petition and sold 12 water bottles and bamboo ecoffee cups. Our main focus however was to talk to people and highlight FOE.

To one side of us,there was a former chemist who had managed to invent a new type of glitter based on eucalyptus, avoiding plastic altogether. You could adhere it to the skin with aloe vera so there also plenty of sparkly people about!

The other side, the stall holders were continually besieged with customers buying a range of plastic free products from bamboo toothbrushes to cotton make-up remover pads. I bought some myself and took some notes for when we next do a product stall...It was great to see the bar dispensing drinks in recyclable cups, plus, despite dieting, I even tried some vegan cakes and enjoyed them!

Here are some quotes from the organizers :

"We set up Zero Mkt to bring together like-minded people in the hope that we can join forces and build a better, more sustainable future for generations to come," Abigail Penny and James Morgan (Founders of Zero Mkt) told Plant Based News.

"For us, veganism and zero waste naturally go hand-in-hand.

"They give us an opportunity to heal, protect and preserve our world and all of the beings on it. We're in the midst of a climate crisis, but right now is a pivotal point in history and by changing what we buy we can change the planet's course. What an empowering thought!"
