Heathrow campaigners demonstrate in Acton

Dr. Onkar Sahota, member of the London Assembly for Ealing and Hillingdon  and Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council joined members of HACAN (Heathrow Association for the Control of Aircraft Noise) in front of Morrisons in Acton on Thursday, 3 December, to protest proposals for a third runway at Heathrow

A flatbed truck featuring a campaign billboard (see photo) plus a vehicle emitting the level of noise Ealing residents can expect if a third runway is built have been touring Ealing and other boroughs that would be affected by Heathrow expansion.

Councillor Bell said Ealing Council has pledged to keep fighting against a third runway. He said he had written to the aviation minister on the matter but has not had a reply. He said Ealing Council will keep pushing for a reply.

Dr. Onkar said there was a consensus in the London Assembly that Heathrow shouldn’t expand because of the effect on air quality and noise pollution.  He said there was no question of dismantling Heathrow, which is a large employer in the borough, but that it needs to be better, not bigger.
