Big cinema chains, including Cineworld, Odeon and Vue, throw away tonnes of plastic straws. They’re among the biggest causes of plastic pollution in the UK, clogging up landfill and choking our oceans. [1] There’s an easy solution - let's force the cinemas to switch to paper straws instead.

Over 200,000 of us have signed the petition calling on the big cinemas to ditch plastic straws. [2] But now we need to dial up the pressure to make sure Odeon, Cineworld and Vue respond to thousands of us - and this is where you come in.

If all of us who signed the petition take a minute to email cinema chains asking them to swap to paper straws, the impact would be massive. With their inboxes full of emails, cinemas bosses will quickly get the message: the public care about plastic pollution and expect them to act. It would be a hard message to ignore!

Will you email Cineworld, Odeon and Vue, telling them to ditch plastic straws? There’s a template email you can use, and it’ll only take a minute:

On top of the massive petition, hundreds of 38 Degrees members have chipped in for a series of national adverts targeting Cineworld, Odeon, and Vue. These will be rolled out in the next week - cinema bosses will be feeling the pressure. Having to respond to thousands of emails too could be the final straw. They’ll realise we’re not going away until they ditch plastic straws.

38 Degrees members like you have rallied to beat big businesses on plastic before. Last year we forced major retailers to ditch plastic cotton buds. [3] And a couple of months ago, PG Tips said they’d remove plastic from their tea bags, after hundreds of thousands of us piled in. [4] Now, if enough of us come together, we can get Cineworld, Odeon and Vue to do the right thing for our environment too.

So, if you think big cinema chains need to do their bit to tackle plastic pollution will you send a quick email to them now? It only takes a minute:
